Two Surprises From MINI

After the MINI brand was reinvented by BMW, several versions of the same car have been released: the Cooper, Paceman, Countryman and so on. While not identical, each of these versions carries the same MINI styling, with it's big round headlights, small chrome grill and chunky stance. It looks like that mold will change. Indeed, MINI has recently introduced two concepts, one of which appears to be on it's way to potential success. First, the MINI Vision Superleggera is a small, two-seater roadster with a silhouette that defies traditional MINI styling. MINI says that the concept "elegantly perpetuates what the Classic Mini started 55 years ago: reduction to the essentials. Its energetic, minimalistic design embodies the dynamic essence of an automobile. At the same time it creates unique emotional beauty in combining the past and future of the automotive industry, i.e. traditional coachwork craftsmanship and modern design styling."

Shake Up At Mini

BMW's Mini division is considering some big changes in the near future. As it ponders the future of it's small car line-up, it's thought that the company will end production of some of it's current models. Don't worry, the brand's core models, the Mini Cooper Hardtop and the Cooper Countryman will be here for a long time; but the other Mini models are less secure, likely to be replaced once they reach the end of their product cycle. During an interview at the 2013 New York Auto Show, the Mini U.S.A.'s vice president Jim McDowell said that while models will be replaced, "we won't replace every model exactly." The brand has evolved from two models to the current seven, and is gearing up to start the next generation of Minis in a year's time.

MINI Car Clubs

Most iconic cars have legions of fans who often form fan clubs. The Ford Mustang, which is only now making it's way outside of the North American market has clubs all around the globe. Each of these vehicles has it's own culture, and the MINI and it's network of car clubs is no exception. MINI fans in Canada often join a local MINI car club. There is a Toronto MINI Club, a 610-member MINI Club of Quebec, and many more such clubs around the country. This summer, members of the Toronto MINI Club drove in a convoy to the MINI Invasion, a celebration of all things MINI in Niagara-on-the-Lake. On the grounds were 162 MINIs, no two alike. Described as "Miniacs" this group of fun loving drivers. One such fan who attended the Niagara event said: "I challenge anyone to get into this car and not end up saying, Okay, the MINI is the most fun car you’ll ever drive." He added: "I’m not a car guy – I’m a MINI guy."One of the highlights of MINI ownership is the delight enjoyed by making one's MINI distinct. Owners often modify, customize and accessorize their vehicles to show off to other MINI aficionados.
